What a hot topic at Buying & Selleing eContent! Great presentations on the topic by

Daniel Harrison, ConsumerReports.org who talked about Consumer Opinions, where people provide opinions

Jerome Bland-Sebrien, FT.com, who talked about FT’s new “View from the Top” internet videos

Jonathan Hoy, LexisNexis, who talked about blog content in LN

The conversation groups following the presentations in David Gurteen’s knowledge cafe style were very lively — lots of knowledge, information, and ideas were shared! Thanks group!

Hart talked about changes in the content industry, the types of content (audio, video), the accelerated pace of change in technology introduction (for instance, mobile technologies) and the higher expectations of user communities. She talked about “prosumers” who produce and also consume content and what is necessary for success in a Web 2.0 world:
* innovation
* simplicity
* continuous evolution
* accessibility
* immediacy
This is a world where “users are partners and co-developers who enrich sites and content” and where “platforms for user engagement interact with content and sites” (eBay, Amazon, MySpace & Facebook).
Content sellers in today’s Web 2.0 world must have “constant innovation, engage prosumers, focus on simplicity & immediacy, and creatively think about new models which may involve new partnerships or redefined market focus”. Hart challenged the audience to find ways to:
* transform their organizations into Web 2.0 companies
* engage prosumers
* build communities with employees and customers.
More on Hart’s talk from John Blossom.

Euan Semple, former KM Director for BBC, and propoent of Web 2.0 tools, has been the subject of several recent blogs posts for his take on the easy way to do Enterprise 2.0:

From Dan’s blog post:

“Enterprise 2.0 is not just the idea of employing blogs, wikis, collective intelligence, social networking, tagging, RSS, AJAX, presence and other technologies and Web-related concepts in a corporate setting. It connecting with the younger workforce that grew up on the Web and the older workforce who grew into the Web, understanding the powers of collaboration, communication, flattened hierarchies and knowledge access brought by the Internet.

Semple boils it down to three principles: Do nothing, get out of the way and keep the energy levels up. He encourages companies to unleash and engage with the people energized to explore Web 2.0 tools and to open the way for them to do so inside the firewall (get out of the way) as a path to benefiting from Enterprise 2.0. It’s the getting out of the way part that will give CIOs and IT departments headaches. “

An interesting discussion is being fueled by KM gurus, Dave Snowden and Hubert Saint Onge. Comments from John Husband give the background and some spin from his thoughts as well. This will undoubtedly shape up to a face to face conversation/discussion/debate at KMWorld & Intranets, Nov 6-8, 2007 in San Jose. Stay tuned for more on that and check out the call for speakers for that event.
